MY SPECIALTIES

INDIVIDUAL COUNSELLING

Individual Counseling can be one of the bravest and most effective form of counseling. Individual Therapy is a collaborative process-a mutual exploration of your self. When we work on ourselves and want to change, our quality of life can drastically improve!  I believe in tailoring the session to meet my client's needs. I use various therapeutic approaches to assist clients with reaching their goals.

COUPLES THERAPY

It's never too late, or too early, to put forth effort into your relationship. Couples Therapy is a great way to reconnect with your partner or to work through the most difficult and challenging issues in their relationship. These problems can range from communication issues, significant disagreements, substance abuse to psychological disorders. All of these issues are treatable and while in couples counseling, new skills and insight is gained which can improve the relationship. I work with couples on reconnecting using various approaches, one being Emotionally Focused Therapy that is very effective.

RELATIONSHIP COUNSELLING

Relationship counseling may be between family members, co-workers or friends.  My experience involves counseling with family members, close friends and parents with their teenagers.

PARENTING DIFFICULTIES

Parenting can be fulfilling and satisfying and also be difficult and time-consuming. Parents and children may feel overwhelmed due to hectic schedules, financial difficulties and lack of sleep. Other issues involve different parenting styles between the spouses. In counseling, my clients learn effective and practical skills to assist them with their parenting challenges.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing is a psychotherapy that allows individuals to heal from emotional distress and symptoms caused by disturbing and painful life experiences.  Studies show the brain's information processing system naturally moves towards mental health. However, if the system is blocked due to a disturbing event, the emotional wound remains and can cause great suffering. With EMDR therapy, once this block is cleared,  the painful memory is transformed on an emotional level and the client is able to end EMDR therapy feeling empowered by the experience that once troubled them.

Depression

Millions of people suffer from depression and it can come in many forms. When I work with clients suffering from depression, we explore all treatment options together to determine the best choice for the client. Treatment can vary depending on the type of depression and severity. The good news is depression is treatable and one does not have to suffer alone.

ANXIETY

Anxiety is the most common mental health issues in the U.S. and like depression is one of the most treatable.  I utilize various treatment modalities that are tailored to the client's need. EMDR along with other treatment approaches can reduce the symptoms of anxiety and allow you to function at your full potential.

STRESS & WORK ISSUES

We live in a fast paced world with more demands and expectations than ever before. Balancing work and family responsibilities can be overwhelming at times! As a therapist, I work with individuals and families to help them learn effective coping skills as well as assisting them to find new and healthy ways to deal with their every day demands. I also assist individuals who are dealing with work issues that are interfering with their mental health.

ANGER ISSUES

Everybody feels anger at different times, to varying degrees and feeling angry is a natural part of being human. Anger is a secondary emotion, meaning a primary emotion, like fear or sadness can be found underneath the anger. Early on in my career, I had the opportunity to run Anger Management Groups which allowed me to help individuals identify the underlying causes for their angry outbursts as well as teach them the necessary tools to manage their anger in healthy ways.

TRAUMA

I believe EMDR is one of the most effective treatment for trauma. Individuals can experience big or little traumas in their life, which can become locked in its own memory network as it was experienced. Often, unpleasant childhood experiences are kept in memory networks that have not been integrated with adult networks, causing clients to act in irrational ways. EMDR integrates these networks and the client can be free from the emotional charge from the traumatic experience and have a more positive outlook on their future.
